About The Project
The TALKAM Human Rights Initiative, operated by Devatop Centre for Africa Development, is a civic tech initiative and movement that stimulates and mobilizes community actions across Nigeria and other African countries to promote and protect human rights, while fostering an inclusive society rooted in social justice. TALKAM is a Pidgin English Word, meaning to “Speak Out”. The initiative leverages technology to disrupt human rights abuses and ensure no one is left behind.
Through its mobile app and web app (www.talkam.app), TALKAM fosters civic engagement, accountability and transparency in addressing human rights issues with a focus on inclusivity. The App supports multiple international languages, enabling people from diverse backgrounds to report human rights abuses. It also supports the tracking of cases, provides online human rights courses, and facilitates social networking for advocacy and support.
Deployed across 36 states in Nigeria, TALKAM is also accessible in other African countries and continents. Currently, 51 human rights organizations and government agencies across 34 states in Nigeria have adopted the TALKAM App for inclusive case management, allowing them to effectively receive and respond to human rights abuses in a way that is accessible to all.
