About The Project

Interactive Theatre turns audiences into active participants, using performance to advance gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Implemented by the Girl Child Values Support Initiative, a women-led organization working across Northern Nigeria, the project combines participatory theatre, creative storytelling, and community dialogue to amplify women’s voices and foster peaceful coexistence.

Its signature approach, Solution-Swap Theatre, shifts audiences from observers to action. At pivotal moments in each performance, audience members are invited onstage to replace actors, assume different roles, and test alternative responses to the challenges presented. Drawing on their own cultural perspectives and lived experiences, participants question harmful norms together and imagine new possibilities.

The performances and post-performance dialogues bring together women and girls, young people, persons with disabilities, community leaders, and people from different cultural and religious backgrounds.

By ensuring that a broad range of voices shapes the conversation, the project challenges discrimination, builds empathy across differences, and strengthens trust within communities.
