About The Project
Enabling all people of all abilities to read together: this is the idea behind Mais Diferenças’ multi-format accessible books initiative.
Based on the principles of universal design and inclusive accessibility, Mais Diferenças has created a pioneering methodology to promote access to books and reading for all people. This entails developing audiovisual books based on different accessibility resources, while taking into consideration the needs of individuals with disabilities.
The organization draws from their collective experience in inclusive education and their background on developing accessibility projects in public libraries. Recognizing the need for low-cost, high-quality alternatives to non-accessible formats in public spaces, Mais Diferenças created multimedia books that include a combination of texts, audio narrations, image descriptions, Brazilian Sign Language options, animations, soundscapes, and easy reading features.
To promote the books and their wide usability potential, Mais Diferenças hosts its accessible library online. In addition, the organization provides training for professionals, accessible and inclusive reading mediations, and develops complementary materials to support professionals and families. The purpose is to increase access to literature in a diversified way.
