About The Project

Peace Rickshaws Project uses the canvas of auto-rickshaws and the medium of pop-art to relay messages of peace, tolerance and interfaith harmony in Pakistan. By creating a culture of tolerance, the project sparks conversations on peace and transforms conflict on the streets. It also functions to counter extremist messaging on rickshaws and re-own the romanticized art form of rickshaw and truck art in Pakistan as a tool for peacebuilding.

The project has been designed for a social movement with rigorous community engagement alongside art creation as it engages rickshaw drivers, owners and youth of the community on the importance of using artistic expressions for peacebuilding.

Peace Rickshaws Project operates on a theory that in order to create a peaceful society, citizens first need to reclaim public spaces from extremist messaging and open up these spaces for an altruistic dialogue on tolerance, pluralism and acceptance.
