About The Project
The Sisterhood of Salaam Shalom is based on the premise that it is easy to hate someone you do not know, but when you know someone, it is harder, and when you care about them, it is almost impossible. The members go from being strangers, to friends, to sisters. The sisters rise up against hate, negative stereotyping and prejudice towards one another and their communities.
This project is the only Muslim-Jewish grassroots organization in North America, soon expanding to Germany, that focuses on interfaith engagement to build the respect, trust and relationships necessary to protect one another from hate. The sisters listen with their hearts and see the world through one another’s eyes as they develop relationships through chapter meetings, regional and international gatherings and traveling together. Training and resources provide the tools and confidence to react quickly to incidents in their community and to stand together in the face of hate. They have grown into a movement reaching thousands of women and girls changing the way the two faith groups view one another, celebrating their commonalities and respecting their differences. They continue to demonstrate that the strength of the relationship between the sisters dictates how they view one another’s communities.
