About The Project

The Integration Atlas builds durable local infrastructure for social cohesion in central Romania. What began in 2022 as frontline relief for families fleeing war in Ukraine has evolved into a permanent force for social integration.

Led by Asociația Suryam, the Mureș Red Cross, and MuresHub local partners, the project’s main focus is building cohesion between refugees, economic migrants, and host communities. It drives four interconnected areas of action: immersive learning, inclusive employment, language access, and shared community space.

At the project’s core is the Inclusion Lab, driving intercultural dialogue through mobile Virtual Reality empathy tours. For a few minutes, a VR headset transports participants directly into another reality—transforming abstract statistics into real human connection, and letting participants experience the world through a whole new lens.

By addressing core socio-economic needs, Integration Atlas counters xenophobia and challenges polarization. Behind all the frameworks and data lies one ultimate purpose: ensuring no one in central Romania feels like an outsider—only neighbours, not strangers.
