About The Project
Welcoming Cities is a national network of cities, shires, towns and municipalities that are committed to an Australia where everyone can belong and participate in social, cultural, economic, and civic life.
The continued advancement of social cohesion in Australia is contingent upon the ability to embrace diversity and build economic success in the face of a myriad of complex population challenges.
In response to this need, Welcoming Cities supports local governments as facilitators and brokers in their respective communities to ensure a coordinated, whole-of-community approach. The initiative has grown substantially over the past seven years, currently engaging more than 70 local government authorities as well as hundreds of community organizations and agencies.
In a country where most inhabitants have a migrant story, Welcoming Australia believes the benefits of multiculturalism and social cohesion should be enjoyed by all.
